Biography

Dr. Patrick Oduor Owoche is a Senior Lecturer in Information Technology and Director of Open, Distance and eLearning (ODeL) at Kibabii University, Kenya.

Background

Before moving to university teaching I taught mathematics, physics and computer studies in secondary schools for 14 years. That classroom background still shapes how I design digital learning: it has to work for real students in real conditions.

I hold a PhD in Information Technology from Kibabii University (2019), an MSc in Information Technology from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (2014) and a BEd in Science (Mathematics and Physics) from Egerton University (2000).

Work

My research connects technology-enhanced learning, health and agricultural information systems, and the internationalisation of African higher education. At Kibabii University I direct Open, Distance and eLearning (since 2025), and I coordinated Linkages and International Affairs from 2019 to 2025. In 2026 I performed the duties of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Finance and Development) in June and served as acting Registrar (Planning, Partnerships, Research and Innovation).

Supervision and examination

I have supervised ten postgraduate theses to completion, three of them PhDs, and examined 22 theses (10 PhD and 12 Master's or MBA) at three Kenyan universities.

International work

I am an Adjunct Professor at Chandigarh Engineering College (CGC University Mohali), a Visiting International Faculty member at Chandigarh University, and National Treasurer of IAESTE Kenya. I completed the DIES Management of Internationalization programme at Leibniz Universität Hannover (2020 to 2021).

Memberships

Professional member, Association for Computing Machinery (ACM); member, International Federation for IT and Travel and Tourism (IFITT).
