Research & Supervision

Research for Practical and Institutional Impact

My research focuses on the practical application of information technology to challenges in education, health, agriculture, digital trust, and higher-education transformation.

I develop and evaluate models, frameworks, and information systems that respond to real institutional and societal needs, with particular attention to African contexts. My work combines technology design with questions of adoption, usability, governance, and impact.

Across these areas, I am interested not only in whether a technology can work, but whether people and institutions can adopt it, sustain it, and derive meaningful value from it.

Research methods in my PhD work

PhD in Information Technology, Kibabii University (2019): Online Hotel Branding Based on the Dialogic Principles of Internet Communication. The study evaluated how star-rated hotel websites in Kenya apply those principles, then built an evaluation model from the findings.

  • Philosophy and designPost-positivist stance with a quantitative design that combined media content analysis and the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP).
  • SamplingSimple random sampling of 64 hotel websites from 123 three-star-and-above hotels, with sample size set by the Yamane formula (±5% precision). Purposive sampling for expert focus groups.
  • Data collectionAutomated tools (WebPageTest, SEOptimer, OpenLink Structured Data Sniffer, W3Techs, Alexa, Fanpage Karma) plus manual inspection by three coders.
  • AnalysisDichotomous coding of dialogic-principle indicators, scored as percentages and analysed with descriptive statistics in SPSS.
  • Model developmentFocus-group discussions refined the attributes; FAHP with triangular fuzzy numbers, Chang's extent analysis and consistency testing produced weighted criteria and sub-criteria.
  • Quality and ethicsPilot study, cross-checking across tools, test-retest reliability over two weeks, institutional and NACOSTI research approvals, and anonymised reporting.

The same habit runs through my later work: measurable evidence first, then models and systems that institutions can adopt.

“I am interested in technologies that are not only technically sound, but usable, adoptable, scalable, and relevant to the institutions and communities they are designed to serve.”

The mixed-methods design is set out in my 2025 PLOS ONE protocol. See publications
