Information and sensors for climate-smart farming
I study how farmers get and use information and how low-cost sensors and prediction models can support better decisions.
What I do
- Information needs and access for climate-smart agriculture
- Sensor-based smart farming and wireless sensor networks
- Predictive analytics for crop decisions
- Technology adoption among smallholders
Evidence from my work
- Three 2024 papers: smart-farming preparedness; information needs for climate-smart agriculture; access and use of information for climate-smart agriculture
- Researcher on the UKRI bagasse-drier project (GBP 246,630), an adjacent climate and energy project
Supervision and examination
Two completed PhDs: predictive analytics for climate-smart agriculture (sorghum) and wireless sensor networks with machine learning for smart farming. Examined theses on an AI-IoT-blockchain seed supply chain and weather forecasting.
Partners and funders
Agricultural research institutes and climate-adaptation consortia are natural partners; UK and EU partners from the UKRI project.
Sustainable Development Goals
- SDG 2 (zero hunger)
- SDG 13 (climate action)
- SDG 1 (no poverty)
Collaboration ideas
- Farmer advisory tools that fit low-bandwidth phones
- Low-cost sensors with machine learning for yield decisions
- Seed-supply traceability using IoT
